Container Backlogs in Vietnamese Port Expected to Improve

The Vietnamese government has postponed the implementation of the Decree No. 34/2010/ND-CP by 12 months, which will require drivers of container trucks to obtain a FC driving license.

The decree was put into effect on July 1, 2010. Since then, many drivers who have not acquired the FC driving license yet had been compelled to stop their work, which has caused huge backlogs of containers in Vietnamese ports including Cat Lai and dramatically laid a negative influence on business performance of importers and exporters as well as terminal operators.

The postponement is expected to improve the congestion and promote smooth flows of import and export containers.
